Blue Egyptian Lotus
In ancient Egypt, the Blue Lotus - a water lily - was frequently depicted in art, adorning pillars, stone altars, thrones, papyrus scrolls and was also part of the ceremonial headdresses of pharaohs. During these times, the Blue Lotus, which only blooms once a year for three days, symbolized creation and rebirth. It also played an important role in Egyptian mythology. The Blue Lotus was considered the symbol of the sun, as it closes its leaves at night and opens them again in the morning similar to a setting and rising sun. The ancient Egyptians believed that the sun god Ra emerged from a lotus into which he retreated at night. They also included the Blue Lotus in spiritual and magical ceremonies to connect to the Divine.
